Tragedy Strikes Milestone College as Air Force Jet Crashes on Campus

Dhaka, Bangladesh - A day of learning turned into a scene of devastation at Milestone College in Uttara, Dhaka, after a Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) training aircraft crashed into the campus earlier today. The incident, which occurred around 1:30 PM, has resulted in at least one confirmed fatality and left over 100 people injured, many of them students.

The F-7 BGI training aircraft went down, striking a building on the college's campus and immediately bursting into flames. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as the plane hit the primary school building just as classes were ending for the day. A physics teacher at the college recounted seeing the aircraft crash into the three-storey school building, trapping several students inside.

Emergency services, including the Bangladesh Army, Fire Service, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), were promptly dispatched to the scene to conduct rescue operations. Multiple firefighting units worked to extinguish the blaze, while rescue teams worked to free those trapped in the wreckage.

The injured, many with severe burn injuries, were rushed to various hospitals, including the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery and the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). An emergency hotline has been established at the burn institute to assist those affected by the crash. To aid in the transportation of the injured, a coach on the Dhaka metro rail has been specially reserved.

The government has declared a one-day state of mourning to be observed tomorrow in response to the tragedy. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus expressed his profound shock and sorrow over the casualties.

This tragic event has cast a dark shadow over Milestone College, an institution known for its academic excellence. The college has a history of strong performance in both the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, with high pass rates and a significant number of students achieving GPA-5. Founded in 2001, Milestone College has grown to become a prominent educational institution in Dhaka, offering both Bengali and English medium education. The focus now remains on the recovery and support of the students, staff, and families affected by this devastating incident.
