Gettysburg, PA – July 15, 2025:
The paranormal community is in mourning following the unexpected death of Dan Rivera, a renowned paranormal investigator and the lead handler of the infamous Annabelle doll, who passed away yesterday while on tour in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Rivera was 54.
👻 A Life Dedicated to the Unknown
Rivera, a former U.S. Army veteran and Connecticut native, served as a senior lead investigator for the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR), an organization founded by famed investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. He joined NESPR in 2011, after being mentored by Lorraine before her death in 2019.
Over the years, River — who appeared on Travel Channel’s Most Haunted Places and produced Netflix’s 28 Days Haunted — built a formidable reputation for his passionate approach to paranormal education and artifact handling.
🎥 Devils on the Run with Annabelle
At the time of his passing, Rivera was showcasing Annabelle in Gettysburg as part of the “Devils on the Run” tour. The sell-out weekend event at the historic Soldiers National Orphanage drew hundreds of curious attendees. Emergency services were called after Rivera collapsed in his hotel room. CPR was administered, but he could not be revived. The official cause of death remains under investigation.
📜 Annabelle’s Storied Past
The Raggedy Ann doll, dubbed “Annabelle,” gained infamy through the Warrens’ investigations in the 1970s and later inspired the Conjuring horror franchise. Rivera took over as the doll’s public face, continuing its legacy through tours and online content. Earlier this year, he publicly crushed rumors that Annabelle had gone missing during a viral TikTok scare.
🕊️ Tributes & Legacy
NESPR and peers have poured out their grief:
“Dan truly believed in sharing his experiences and educating people on the paranormal. His kindness and passion touched everyone who knew him,” wrote Chris Gilloren on Instagram.
TikTok collaborator Ryan Buell echoed the sentiment, calling Rivera a bridge between the Warrens’ generation and today’s audiences.
